CHIROPODY/PODIATRYYour consultation and first treatment will last 30 minutes to take a medical history and to assess your foot problem. Should you have a complicated problem or require a detailed biomechanical assessment then I would recommend you schedule a follow up appointment. Podiatry differs from general chiropody. Podiatric biomechanics is concerned with preservation, restoration and development of the function of the foot and its associated structure. During each step of walking the different parts of the foot reacts with the ground at specific times during each step. If the foot is functioning in a way to alter the function of the lower limb and entire skeletal complex, the joints, muscles and ligaments may become stressed and eventually strained and damaged. This is when a biomechanical assessment can often help a podiatrist pinpoint the foot problem and develop a diagnosis of the lower limb problems foot related pains, e.g. heel pain, flat feet, ankle sprain and lower back pain etc. A lot of biomechanical foot problems are treated with orthoses or simple insoles. Theses are footwear inserts made specifically for each patient to try and reduce their leg/foot symptoms and thereby improve the function of the leg/foot. For more information on this type of treatment, please contact the Pharmacy.
